• ASSESSMENT

Was the idea of Europe or a sense of common European values existing or not for the teenagers of the thirties and forties ? Why or why not ?

  • No because the teenagers didn’t learn anything about foreign countries. Only wealthy people learnt foreign languages. The majority of people was poor or average wealthy. Pupils stopped the school at 14 years old. The majority of people didn’t have any radio or didn’t have the means to buy news-papers or books. So, people didn’t have any informations about the neighbouring countries. They only got local information. Travelling was also too expensive. Some parents considered reading as a waste of time or something useless. So the teenagers couldn’t read books to foreign authors.
